Revolutionary Road Poster Revealed

After 11 years apart, they're finally back together: The King of the World and...um...the director's wife.

Yes, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, who probably should've asked for more cash on the back end of Titanic, will reunite in Revolutionary Road, a drama directed by Winslet's hubby, Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition).

Amazingly enough, this book has never been filmed, despite winning first-time author Richard Yates a nomination for National Book Award in 1962. It's not a stretch to say that this movie looks at similar cracks in the facade of the American Dream that power American Beauty. "If my work has a theme, I suspect it is a simple one: that most human beings are inescapably alone, and therein lies their tragedy," declared Yates in 1999. April and Frank Wheeler are ordinary suburbanites in the 1950s...and that's exactly the problem.

Here's a new poster for the film from IMP Awards, and I think it tells us everything we need to know. It's uncluttered, probably not too memorable in the grand scheme of things, but it's certainly a good match for the movie, based on what I know.

"Titanic" Couple Reunited

Their epic love was giddy, passionate, unshakable - until the ship hit the iceberg and sank.

The stars of Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, share a far different love story in Revolutionary Road, playing a couple whose marriage comes undone as they seek meaning amid the stifling conformity of the 1950s.

Good pals in real life, DiCaprio and Winslet had some awkward moments in their love scenes: her husband, Revolutionary Road director Sam Mendes, was looking on and giving them pointers.

How weird was it?

“I just kept saying, ‘This is too … weird,’” Winslet tells Entertainment Weekly magazine. “And Leo was like, ‘Oh, get over it.’ And I’m going, ‘Yeah, a little reminder: You’re my best friend. He’s my husband. This is a bit weird.’”

Mendes, who directed American Beauty says, “I will admit it was quite bizarre to direct my wife in how to make love. But it’s difficult whether you’re married to the person or not.”

And for DiCaprio? “No more than any other situation like that,” DiCaprio said. “Doing those type of scenes is always a bit strange, never mind a husband but an entire crew watching you.”

It’s been 11 years since Winslet and DiCaprio co-starred in the Oscar-winning blockbuster Titanic, and Winslet says a spark remains between them.

“I hadn’t realized how much my chemistry with him since Titanic would still stick,” says the 32-year-old actress. “It’s great to discover we can just slip right into it, like muscle memory.”

They play suburban couple Frank and April Wheeler in Revolutionary Road, based on Richard Yates’ 1961 novel. It is slated for release in December, just in time for Oscar consideration.

“We knew that if we were going to do something again, it had to be something big and emotional,” Winslet says. “Revolutionary Road is so painful and beautiful to read, simply because of the brutality of the honesty that Frank and April end up experiencing together.”

Winslet was eager to bring DiCaprio on board, and set up a sneaky way to do it: She arranged a meeting with the 33-year-old actor in March 2007, but sent Mendes in her place.

“Leo and I have such a history together, and I couldn’t imagine not being able to apply that to this story and these characters,” she says. “So I played this very clever cat-and-mouse game to get my husband and then my best friend involved.”

Kate Winslet To Play John Lennon's Mother?

Kate Winslet is apparently in the pipeline to play John Lennon’s mother.

The Titanic star is on a list of actresses director Sam Taylor-Wood is looking to approach for the part, according to The Daily Mail.

The film, called Nowhere Boy, will tell the story of the Beatle’s childhood, growing up with his mother and his aunt. The screenplay has been written by Matt Greenhalgh - who won a Bafta for Control, his biopic about Joy Division’s Ian Curtis - and is based on the book Imagine This: Growing Up With My Brother John Lennon by John’s sister Julia Baird.

John was raised by his Aunt Mimi and apparently grew up not knowing that his real mother, Julia, lived just round the corner. It seems Aunt Mimi disapproved of her younger sister for “living in sin”, and Baird’s book claims this was driven by jealousy, dating back to childhood sibling rivalry.

The story sees John and his mother re-united and she introduces him to the world of rock ‘n’ roll. A painful struggle erupts between the two women, and tragedy strikes, propelling John into The Beatles, full of love, longing and pain.

Sam reportedly hopes to approach Angela’s Ashes star Emily Watson to play Aunt Mimi.

Auditions will begin in Liverpool next month to search for suitable teenagers to play Beatles’ legends John and Paul McCartney. Filming is due to start in March.
